Industry leadership
A cup of tea is a treat, a nourishing moment to make us feel better. In the world that LIPTON Teas and Infusions wants, teas and herbals are synonymous with wellbeing not just for those who drink it, but for all who help make it.
Of course, we do not control what happens outside the company. But as the world’s largest tea buyer and a key player in the herbals market, we have a major role to play in raising the bar and promoting best practices. By building industry coalitions and deploying joint programs, we increase our ability to deliver positive social and environmental impacts.
In partnership with IDH, we are driving the Roadmap on Living Wages, which takes a methodical approach to measuring and closing the gap that prevents too many workers and their families from enjoying decent living conditions – including food, housing, basic healthcare and education.
We have partnered with UN Women since 2016 to develop a human rights-based intervention program across the tea supply chain and we contributed to the publication of a Global Women's Safety Framework in Rural Spaces. More recently, we joined the Consumer Goods Forum to be part of the Collaboration for Healthier Lives.
Last but not least, we help smallholders increase their incomes and improve their environmental impacts by sharing best agricultural practices and the higher-yielding plant varieties we develop, notably in our Camellia sinensis nurseries in East Africa.
